Bridal hair specialists are worth their weight in gold, especially as they know all the tricks of the trade to transform your look, so that you feel incredible as you walk down the aisle.

It’s worth arranging a trial - even several, to discuss the style you want to have. These events give you the chance to discuss a whole range of options. Even those with fine hair who want an updo style or greater volume, can discuss the use of hairpieces and whether they'll need perfectly matched colouring before the day.

Trials are your opportunity to try out purely bridal hair styles, something you're probably not familiar with up to now. But don't be tempted to go for the outrageous cut or colour on these occasions. If the stylist recommends them to you, run for the hills. This is not the occasion for a complete change, making you unrecognisable on the day of your wedding.

It's all about the dress and headdress in these trial sessions. Depending on the style of wedding dress you’ll be wearing, your hair stylist may need to play around with different hair designs. If a feature of your dress is it's view from the back, your hair stylist will be looking to suggest styles that enhance that feature, not hide it, plus complete the look around your face and headdress, so all views are perfectly covered.

If you've chosen to wear a tiara and or veil, a great bridal hair stylist will want to have these at hand when suggesting styles to you for the perfect look.

To get your hair into good shape for your wedding day, it's worth remembering that great hair comes from within. The care you take with your diet and drinking in the months beforehand will reap rewards for you on your wedding day. Take advice from your hairdresser on the better hair care products to use and those to avoid, plus cut back on too much alcohol and replace with plain old water, plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, protein and vitamin supplements.

Here are some treatments you can do at home, to get your hair into really great shape for your wedding:

  • Deep treatment with vinegar for shine - Wash your hair normally and rinse thoroughly to get rid of shampoo residue. Then rinse again with 2 cups of apple cider vinegar mixed with one cup of water. Leave mixture on for 15 minutes then rinse thoroughly with fresh water, leaving hair shiny and manageable.
  • Condition using unrefined coconut oil - Massage unrefined coconut oil into the hair starting from the ends upwards. Don't be tempted to use too much as the main aim it to condition the ends. Wash over your hair with warm water and wrap in a towel or shower cap for 30 minutes to contain it. After thirty minutes, shampoo and condition your hair as normal. Air dry if possible. Repeat this once a week.
  • Soft, shiny hair using eggs - Shampoo your hair normally with lukewarm water, then massage a mixture of 2-4 eggs yolks with enough olive oil to cover yolks, into the hair. Leave for 5-6 minutes then rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. Finally, rinse with cool water.
  • Deep conditioning using yogurt - Using plain yogurt, massage all over the hair and then tie into a knot or bun for 20-30 minutes, or until yogurt starts to dry. Shampoo and condition normally afterwards.
